The 3rd International Seminar – Justice and Love will take place on October 26, 27 and 28, 2017 at FAJE – the Jesuit Faculty of Philosophy and Theology, located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The reason for the choice of location was for two fundamental reasons: firstly, the central location of Minas Gerais, which favors access by participants from both northern and southern regions, and for having good airport connections/accessibility. Secondly, because this Jesuit Faculty has produced fruitful research developed through the thought of Levinas, covering not only the area of philosophy, but also the areas of theology, psychoanalysis, law, letters, and communications, etc.
This Seminar aims to strengthen the research activities of members of the CEBEL (the Brazilian Center for Studies on Emmanuel Levinas) and GT Levinas (a study group working on Levinas based at ANPOF, the National Association for Postgraduate study in Philosophy), as well as the activities of several other Research Groups, students and teachers spread throughout Brazil and many other countries. We propose to promote a space for debate around Levinasian philosophy, starting from the multiple possible readings of his work in order to generate productive exchange. The meeting will focus especially on the theme of love and justice and its unfolding in relation to the notions of subjectivity, language, freedom and ethics.
